The modern use of acupuncture was developed in the 1950’s by Nogier who took on board the prevailing ideas of the reflexology of Eunice Bailey and sound therapy developed by Tamaris to develop a model of the ear based on an upside down foetus. The French Ear was an integrated model based on embryology and psychotherapeutic principles. The Chinese took the ideas of Nogier and developed a different model based on empirical studies done on the Red Army. This is the ear model that we use today. Acudetox has probably been the single most important reason for the increasing popularity of ear acupuncture in the West. Some positive results in relieving opium addiction were found using body and ear points in Kuring Hospital in Hong Kong in 1972. The ear protocol was developed in 1974 at the Lincoln Memorial Hospital in New York, helping alcoholics and addicts. Auricular acupuncture has existed for three thousand years in China. According to TCM, acupuncture works due to its effect on the essential substance. This "substance," is known as Chi or Qi (pronounced "chee"). Acupuncture works in certain situations by stimulating the body to produce endorphins, a morphine-like chemical that helps block pathways that relay pain messages. The result is relief from pain, general relaxation, and restoring the body's own internal regulatory system. There are as many as 200 acupuncture points on the outer ear, each point named generally after areas of our anatomy - liver, heart, mouth and so on. Therefore combination of Naturopathic program and ear acupuncture will provide an ideal combination. Both systems will apply a much more holistic dimension to any problem. Acupuncture has been found to be effective in treating of:
- Urinary, menstrual, and reproductive disorders.
- Addiction including smoking
- Sleep disorders
- Skin problems
- Digestive disordes
- Respiratory disorders
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A TREATMENT SESSION
During this time you should feel deeply relaxed with a sense of calm and well being. You will be seated and I will provide calming music, incense sticks to enhance the experience. Ear Acupuncture is not painful and most people say they cannot feel the needles in their ears but if you feel uncomfortable and you wish me to remove the needles then I can do so. After the treatment is finished I could apply press seeds to enhance that effect of acupuncture. You may feel better after several treatments. However, it can take up to 6 treatments to feel the maximum benefits, depend on your health condition. A session will last no longer than 40 minutes. Acupuncture needles are very slender about human hair size. The needles are sterile and disposable. Fee for Auricular Acupuncture is £30- per session.2 sessions per week is £50
